Display Screen Equipment (DSE)

  • Every business that has workers using DSE are legally required to ensure it issued properly and that it does not cause any harm or injury.

  • Display Screen Equipment includes anything you need to use a computer at work, this includes the desk, chair and even the mouse.

Remember this includes the office, at home or anywhere else, including hybrid working.

  • You just need to make sure each person has the correct assessment and equipment. You don’t have to do this yourself, you can appoint someone to do it for you.

You can buy the forms and policy ready made from our store to guide you, or we can do it all for you.

  • It is a legal requirement, but also good practice to make sure employees are comfortable.

Have you ever experienced discomfort from sitting at your desk too long? Headaches, neckache?

If people are sitting for long periods, or frequently in a poor position this can cause long term conditions such as carpal tunnel and other RSI’s (Repetitive strain injuries).

If the company was found to be a contributing factor in this, then they become liable and would potentially face an employment tribunal which can be very costly.

There are many products that make DSE use easier to manage.

Eye Tests

As heavy DSE use can cause eye strain and affect long term vision.

Employers must provide eye tests for employees who are DSE users.

Employers usually also provide glasses (or a contribution towards) where the user requires them for DSE use only.

There are various schemes available that are cost effective for employers, such as Specsavers Corporate vouchers.

For added employee benefit companies might consider offering a contribution towards any type of glasses.
