How much does it cost to use outsourced or retained HR?

Well, that really depends.

The size and complexity of your business will factor into the cost, as well as how much support you want or need.

It needs to be cost effective for you, when compared to the cost of recruiting an equivalent role.


Outsourcing HR, and/or Health & Safety to us gives you:

  • The experience of a high level salary for a low monthly cost

  • A service that’s there when you need it

  • Experienced consultants balancing people and commercial business needs

Why would you outsource HR?

  • Because you don’t have the budget to employee someone.

  • You don’t have enough work all the time to need to employ someone.

  • You need complex support on as as needed basis which you can’t get with employing someone.

  • You don’t have to worry about National Insurance or Pension Contributions, covering holidays or training.


To give an example of the options we offer:

A micro business or consultant taking on their first employee(s) would most likely go onto our lowest cost retainer. This would usually be £180+VAT per month, for a minimum of 3 months.


That’s a low cost right?


This would include advice by email or phone when needed, and we would work out what policies or contracts you might need in that initial period, as well as a schedule to complete them.

This is enough to get you going with the basics of HR, providing security for your business.

If you had an imminent issue, like a disciplinary or investigation, then we would likely quote this as a project based on the complexity. Case work isn’t usually included the basic retainers and might cost anywhere upwards from £90 depending on what you needed us to do for you.

Retainers at this starter level cover policies and ad hoc advice as needed.


If you wanted a fixed number of hours per week, we could support that with custom packages.


Recruitment can also be covered again depending on what you need.


Our higher retained packages also include employee management, such as supporting with HR software if required as well as Health & Safety as standard and start from £490 + VAT per month.


However, what we will never do is suggest a retainer that you don’t need.

We will work out an estimate of hours for the support you require across HR, Health & Safety or operational support and create an option that works for you. Whether that be a one off, or a retainer agreement.
